Full Job Description

Remote working is offered as part of this post.

A 12 month fixed term vacancy has arisen for a Clinical Associate in Applied Psychology (CAAP) to work in Child & Adolescent Psychological Services, in NHS Dumfries & Galloway. Child & Adolescent Psychological Services work with children and young people presenting with a range of mental health difficulties. The Service also works with parents/carers and families around behaviour-based and attachment-based parenting.

The postholder will deliver psychological therapies for children and young people presenting with moderate difficulties, and also offer parenting interventions through 1:1 work and group based interventions (e.g Incredible Years & Triple P). As well as working directly with service users, the postholder will also support training and supervision of other health professionals (e.g. LIAM Coaching) who are using psychological approaches in their work.  Additional training will be available to help consolidate and develop existing experience and skills (e.g. additional training in CBT, or adapted CBT models).

Alongside the Core Child and Adolescent Psychology Service there are additional Child specialities; including Medical Paediatrics, Infant Mental Health, Neurodevelopmental Liaison Service, the Paediatric Neuropsychology Service and Care Experienced Team. The postholder may have some input into these additional child specialties over time. This is an exciting and innovative service to work in, and applications are invited from enthusiastic and energetic individuals.

The wider Psychology Department works across the lifespan and now has a complement of around 100 staff. The Psychology Department is a friendly, supportive and lively place of work.  We currently have strong links with Edinburgh and Stirling/Dundee Universities and take trainees from the Edinburgh Doctoral course and from the MSc course in Stirling/Dundee. We also provide placements and supervision for trainee CBT and other psychological therapists.

Informal enquiries/visits are welcomed.
To arrange a visit or for further information regarding the post please contact Prof Nicola Scott, Head of Child & Adolescent Psychological Services on .

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
