Full Job Description

NHS Dumfries & Galloways Primary Care Mental Health Service is pleased is offering the opportunity for recruitment of Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse hours on permanent basis. This is a fantastic opportunity to work within Community Mental Health and gain experience working in a primary care setting.  The post will cover the existing service and provide support for a continuous service when existing staff are on leave.  It is an exciting opportunity to join a well established service and be able to contribute to service development and transformation.

The post holder will be aligned to Annandale and Eskdale Community Mental Health Team, but will be based within GP practices supporting Primary Care in the provision of early assessment and interventions for people with mild-moderate mental health issues.  

Duties will include supporting GP practices with triage, completion of mental health assessments, delivery of brief therapeutic interventions and close partnership working with Primary Care, Home teams, Secondary Care Mental Health Services and Third Sector Agencies.

Post holders will work in partnership with patients/carers and will be expected to have good knowledge of local mental health support services.  These posts require confident candidates who can work in a fast paced environment and be able to manage time effectively. Flexibility, enthusiasm and excellent communication skills are essential.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
