NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated Associate Clinical Scientist in the Molecular Pathology service in NHS Lothian. (based at the Western General Hospital and the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh). The laboratory is part of the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine funded by National Services Division to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland. Applications are invited from scientists with good interpersonal skills with a background in molecular pathology / cancer genomics, with a strong interest in developing diagnostic services and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
The successful applicant will be involved in the delivery of the specialist molecular testing including data analysis. Within this role the post-holder will be expected to contribute to the development of gene panel-based tests using next generation sequencing in accordance with the requirements of the department.
All applicants should have experience working in a laboratory and have clinical and scientific knowledge in the diagnosis and monitoring of solid tumors and haematological malignancies. Knowledge of a range of molecular methodologies and experience in the use of specialist analytical software, combined with interpretation of a range of scientific data including next generation sequencing is preferable.
There will be opportunity to complete a training programme towards HCPC-registration.
