Post: Project Midwife Antenatal Hand Expressing
Tenure: fixed term 6 months. 18.5hrs based in Royal Infirmary
Please note: As this post is part-time the salary will be pro-rata.
The Department of Public Health and Health Policy aims to improve and protect the health of people in Lothian as part of a whole system approach to public health in Scotland.
The post-holder will work with a project team within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Team which is hosted in Public Health and Health Policy. The Maternal and Infant Nutrition team currently works with frontline staff across Neonatal, Maternity, Family Nursing and Health Visiting services to enhance their skills and knowledge around infant feeding. The service supports staff to support all mothers and parents during pregnancy and throughout early parenthood, regardless of how they feed their child, to have close and loving relationships with their baby by embedding the concept of responsive feeding.
1 x Part time fixed term project midwives (Band 6):
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join NHS Lothians Public Health Department as an Project Midwife in the Antenatal hand expressing project within the Maternal and Infant Nutrition Service. The post holder will work with an existing Infant feeding staff member based at St Johns hospital to support a project to reduce breastfeeding drop off by promoting hand expressing.

This post requires the post holder to have a PVG Scheme membership/ record. If the post holder is not a current PVG member for the required regulatory group (i.e. child and/or adult) then an application will need to be made to Disclosure Scotland and deemed satisfactory before they can begin in post.
NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
