Applications are invited from motivated individuals to fill the role of Point of Care Testing (POCT) Secretary.
Based in the Department of Laboratory Medicine, but working at the Edinburgh Bioquarter site, this role will support the POCT Manager with an increasing number of POCT activities across Lothian. The POCT team in Lothian supports an estimated 7000 users and equipment across 3 acute hospitals 7 non acute and 80 GP surgeries.
The post duties will include:
- Answering enquiries by phone and email regarding POCT related issues.
- Maintaining and updating the POCT databases for trained staff.
- Relay information to the POCT team in relation to troubleshooting and training requirements.
- Ordering of stock as requested by POCT users.
- Supporting the POCT manager to improve development and governance of POCT systems.
Good communication skills are vital, proficiency with Microsoft word, Excel and PowerPoint would be advantageous.
Full time 37 hours per week.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
