NHS Lothian covers Edinburgh city, East Lothian, Midlothian and West Lothian. We are the second largest health system in NHS Scotland and one of only four teaching Boards. The vision for the Pharmacy & Medicines service is to deliver clinically led, person-centred services to ensure patients across Lothian get the best from their medicines and pharmacy services. The Western General Hospital (WGH) is a large teaching hospital with an established reputation for offering the best practice across a wide variety of specialist services. It is also home to the Edinburgh Cancer Centre, which is a leading centre for cancer services provision.
We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly motivated pharmacy support workers (PSW) to join our team at the WGH. The post holders will be working with the aseptic dispensing team to undertake supportive roles which are integral to the delivery of team objectives. The unit prepared a range of products including total parenteral nutrition (TPN), complex Central Intravenous Additive Systems (CIVAS), systemic anticancer therapy (SACT) as well as Advanced Therapeutic Investigative Medicinal Products (ATiMPs). The WGH team are committed to increase their research and development portfolio and welcome opportunities to support development of clinical trials on site. We are also developing new roles for PSWs include the preparation of aseptic products. Appropriate education and training will be provided to enable the development of these new skills.
The successful candidates will be educated to SCQF Level 6 with completion of an in-house competency-based Group Award accredited via Edinburgh College within 12 months of commencing the post. Relevant work experience in a healthcare or pharmacy environment is desirable but not essential. The post holder will also undergo a training programme to demonstrate competency for role.
