The Role

The Digital Operations Function delivers high quality digital infrastructure, applications and non-clinical support functions that meet the immediate and future needs of the staff and patient population in Lanarkshire.

Through the Digital Services Manager (Cyber Security) the Senior Cyber Security Engineer is responsible for providing specialist technical insight and knowledge in the Cyber Security remit of the team. Contributing to the development and advisory of current/new technologies, systems and emerging threats.

Additional Information Specific to the Role

  • Subject Matter Expert for all Cyber Security platforms and services in support of Digital Services within NHSL.
  • Assist in ensuring our cyber posture evolves to ensure we are aligned with national directive requirements and NHSL remains hardened for any potential cyber-attacks.
  • The role will advise on contracted support for cyber security, including critical incident recovery services.
  • May be required to participate in the Digital On Call Support Service which provides first line support for 24/7 IT systems in NHS Lanarkshire.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Will be educated to or operating at degree level in an IT Specialty
  • Specialist, demonstrable and extensive experience in an Cyber Security related discipline
  • Further education and evidence of Continuous Professional Development in IT subjects e.g. study days/courses/post graduate qualification
  • Specialist technical knowledge across complex Cyber Security products and practices understanding current needs and acknowledging industry trends
  • Leadership skills to enable the day to day management of service delivery within an IT role
  • Experience in presenting to groups of technical staff on an individual basis
  • Possess excellent team-working/leadership skills and have the ability to motivate others and work using own initiative
  • Familiar with principles and methods of project management
  • Excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must be able to drive and have a current valid UK/EU/EAA driving licence

It would be great if you also have

  • ITIL Foundation
  • Microsoft Sec Ops Analyst (SC-200)
  • Experience in a complex Technical Support role within an IT department
  • Track record in the regular use of Microsoft Operating Systems and Services. Services, Products and Security Toolset
  • Ability to manage the administrative and service delivery aspects of a high pressure Cyber Security Support Service at organisational level
  • Ability to deliver work objectives on own initiative
  • Work effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues at all levels within and external to the organisation
  • Proven relationship and performance management skills

Location and Working Pattern

This role will be based in Digital Services within Kirklands - NHSL Headquarters

The working pattern for this role will operate on core hours, Monday to Friday 9-5pm, but some bespoke Out of Hours work may be required. May be required to participate in the Digital On Call Support Service which provides first line support for 24/7 IT systems in NHS Lanarkshire.

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
