Full Job Description
NHS LOTHIAN
Paediatric Emergency Medicine Sub Specialty Trainee Registrar
Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh
NHS Lothian is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.
To this end, NHS Lothian welcomes applications from all sections of society.
Applications are welcome for the above Fixed Term, Full time (40 hours per week) post based in Royal Hospital for Children and Young People, Edinburgh
This one-year post will allow a senior Emergency Medicine (EM) trainee to develop their skills in Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM). Following successful completion of this year they will be able to complete their training in EM and apply for a CCT in Emergency Medicine with PEM as a subspecialty.
The post is only open to trainees in Emergency Medicine. Please do not apply if you do not have an Emergency Medicine training number.
Paediatric trainees looking to pursue PEM should discuss this with their own Training Program Director.
The post consists of a 6-month placement in Emergency Medicine plus 3 months in each of Paediatric Intensive Care and Paediatric medicine. Trainees are expected to engage with and complete the paediatric EM syllabus as set out by the Royal College of Emergency Medicine.
The post is ideally suited to a trainee looking to gain specialist knowledge and skills in Paediatric EM so that they can work with confidence as a consultant in the future, either in a mixed department seeing both adults and children or a standalone paediatric unit.
This post has deanery approval for training and the successful applicant will receive training opportunities at the appropriate level based on previous experience.
There may be a possibility to extend this appointment to the end of the training year. The extension may be at any of the hospitals on the rotation.
