Full Job Description

An opportunity has arisen for a Registered Mental Health Nurse (Band 5) to join the Annandale Community Mental Health Nursing Team.  This is a post in which the successful candidate will work with people who present with moderate to severe mental health issues.  The post holder will provide assessment, support, advice and interventions to support people to recover and work towards sustained wellbeing and self management.

The post holder will work closely with patients and carers and will link in with colleagues across the health and social care partnership and third and independent sector.  Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop strong therapeutic working relationships is a vital part of this post.

The post holder must be able to demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively work within a busy clinical team, in order to support safe and effective clinical assessment for patients who access the Community mental health service.  The ideal candidate will have experience working with people with complex mental health issues and must hold a Registered Mental Health Nurse Qualification and NMC PIN, as demonstrated within the Personal Specification and Job Description.  The post holder will be able to demonstrate motivation and the ability to make effective clinical decisions in often pressured situations.  This post will provide opportunity for personal development and growth in a friendly, experienced and supportive team.  Full supervision, mentoring and training will be provided.

The ability to travel independently around the region on a regular basis, outwith public transport routes/times, is an essential requirement of the role.

In addition to idyllic countryside and outdoor pursuits, Dumfries and Galloway offers affordable housing and excellent schools which perform consistently well in national rankings.  The area has convenient commutes for a more relaxed quality of life.  Many of our staff have been drawn to the region by the exceptional career opportunities, plus the improved work life balance and focus on family life are also great attractions.  The region offers all the advantages of life in local towns with friendly and safe neighbourhoods and good quality facilities on your doorstep.  The main city centres are within reach if on occasion you want a little more.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full-time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period, for which you would be paid, until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
