PATIENT CARE ADVISOR 37 hours
ADMINISTRATIVE & CLERICAL Band 2
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team at Links Medical Centre as we are currently seeking a Patient Care Advisor to provide a welcoming reception service in person and on the telephone.
You will be a team-player who is conscientious, flexible, with excellent communication, interpersonal and time management skills, as well as a sense of humour. You should have outstanding organisational skills, as well as plenty of initiative, enthusiasm, flexibility, be self-motivated and able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
You will be expected to deal with the general public face to face and sometimes in challenging situations. A sympathetic approach to the needs of our patient group is essential alongside a professional manner when dealing with a wide variety of disciplines at all levels. You should have the ability to prioritize your work, with a good understanding of current computer systems being essential.
You must be prepared to work within the practice opening hours of 8:00am to 6:00pm.
Previous experience in Primary Care preferred but not essential if you possess the relevant skills and have an active interest in working in a public facing role within a healthcare environment.
Duties will include:
- Using your judgement, resourcefulness, common sense, and local knowledge within defined parameters to respond to patients enquiries, particularly in assessing the degree of urgency of the patients requests.
- Responding to patient enquiries and providing relevant information relating to their appointment/services.
- Communicating with patients, other services, and members of multidisciplinary teams, using tact and diplomacy, directing and prioritising queries as appropriate, to ensure efficiency and effectiveness of service delivery.
- Answering the practice telephones, actively listening to patients issues or medical problems, and signposting them appropriately according to practice policies and procedures.
- Provide secretarial and administrative support to the Primary Care Team, Practice Manager and Assistant Practice Manager.
- To support you in your work you will have the opportunity to engage in regular one to one support and annual appraisal with the Practice Manager or Assistant Practice Manager.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay. This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff. This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours. However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.
