We are looking for an enthusiastic and proven leader to join our growing national Strategy team.
The team leads our future thinking for the organisation and has a broad reach. It is responsible for developing and implementing a future focused organisational strategy that resonates with staff, customers and partners; and then designing and implementing strategies to deliver that future. The strategy is fundamental to achieving our core mission; creating better places for people and wildlife, and to delivering our long term goals.
You'll be responsible for cross-cutting projects involving matrix management across different teams and departments, leading the organisation through important milestones such as spending reviews. Projects will include a mix of longer term priorities and short term sprints.
You'll sit on the senior team, responsible for a branch of 2-3FTE, playing an important leadership role. You'll bring skills in strategic thinking, relationship building, and effective communication. Working internally, with government and a range of external stakeholders, you'll present evidence to decision makers in a compelling way.
This role requires someone who can work with complexity to shape organisational direction. You'll be adept at influencing, bringing together insight and evidence to create clarity of message and direction. You'll develop the team and maintain a focus on innovation, both within the team and throughout the organisation.
You'll have sound strategic thinking, an ability to see the bigger picture and a skill for making links between different contexts and strategies. Project leadership experience would be beneficial.
The team
You'll be working withing the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance STA Directorate reporting to our Director of Strategy. STA is at the heart of the Environment Agency. Its passionate and skilled people provide national-once services to enable our organisation to thrive.
The Strategy team relies on strong networking and influencing skills, working with others internall
y and externally. You will support and drive the team, embedding new ways of thinking and working across the organisation.
You'll shape business direction and strategy by anticipating and identifying trends and shifts in relevant political, economic, social, technological and environmental developments.
- You'll have expertise in developing evidence-based recommendations, presenting them to senior leaders, and using your excellent influencing skills to drive organisational policy.
- You'll be highly engaging and able to establish relationships with internal and external stakeholders, influencing decisions and promoting our goals and reputation.
- You'll provide great leadership, motivating those around you to support a high performing workforce focused on delivering outcomes.
- You'll demonstrate effective consultation to ensure direction is grounded in practical realities, making sure it is relevant, workable, efficient and supported.
- Responding to incidents is central to what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. Full training will be
