Full Job Description

This new role will help us to make best use of our data and information assets through ensuring they are findable, accessible, interoperable and reuseable. You will lead a small team to help us translate business requirements, shape our strategic data roadmaps and develop programmes to deliver these. You will:

  • collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand strategic data requirements and to translate these technical delivery roadmaps from a data perspective, including 'as is', 'to be' and transitional states.
  • help us to design, develop and establish data architectural principles, policies and standards including developing best practices guidance, processes, reports, papers and presentations.
  • understand data modelling approaches to bring multiple data sources together, articulate data models, define standards to support consistency, accuracy and ease of use.
  • work with our national leads providing specialist input to our priority projects including data basics, trustworthy data, data storage, information management and reaching FAIR principles.
  • lead, coach and develop others sharing your technical knowledge and setting work.
  • carry out horizon scanning across industry, identifying emerging trends and their potential impact and opportunity for the organisation.
  • Join us, and you will play a vital role in developing and delivering our data and information services and our corporate data approaches to deliver data excellence within our organisation. The team The Data Management team is part of the Data and Information department, within the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance directorate. We are experts in data management, integration, architecture, standards and quality. We work with the business to provide services, leadership and best practice to improve ways of working, deliver efficiencies and improve confidence in our data. We work with teams from across the Environment Agency and Defra to support our strategic business and data outcomes.

    You will be an experienced enterprise architect who has a focus on delivering data architecture and can demonstrate:
  • leading others and delivering work packages.
  • developing strategic data approaches and translating these into practical delivery.
  • communicating effectively across an organisation making complex and technical information accessible to a range of audiences, including non-technical ones.
  • collaborating with business and technology stakeholders to advocate for your team and manage different perspectives and opinions.
  • designing and implementation strategic data management, modelling and storage approaches, providing advice, guidance and practical delivery to resolve business challenges and support data exploitation and reference data management.
  • relevant architecture qualification or experience.
