We are looking for someone who has a keen interest in environmental data to help in the delivery of Defra's and the Environment Agency's Data Services Platform (DSP).
The DSP is an Environment Agency managed, Defra wide service providing access to over 3000 datasets and web services as well as our heavily used applications built using Linked Data technology.
Annually, it has over 1.8 billion user hits making it one of the largest used services in government.
The DSP allows Defra to meet legal and policy obligations, including the Flood Risk Regulations, the Freedom of Information Act, the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations, the INSPIRE Regulations and others.
You will help manage, develop and take forward our data sharing services, engage with internal and external stakeholders, and ensure business requirements are met efficiently and effectively.
This role is as much as people and communications role as it is as a technical role.
You will:
Provide support to help manage the day to day running of the Data Services Platform.
Work with services owners across the EA to scope and implement new data and data services.
Identify enhancements across the platform for the EA and Defra and work with the business and suppliers to implement them
Provide technical support for the data and services hosted on the DSP and respond to customer feedback and queries
Support the management of supplier Business As Usual relationships with the team
Champion the DSP internally and externally
The team
The Data Sharing and Access team is part of Data and Information within the Strategy, Transformation and Assurance Directorate. We are a national team providing technical services, advice and guidance for sharing data and information. Our work includes: managing the Defra Data Services Platform; ensuring our data has discoverable metadata; providing access to Information Resources; leadership in Approval for Access, Data acquisition, Data Flow Mapping, Freedom of Information, and Intellectual Property
Have a keen interest in environmental data and be able to see the potential on how to maximise its use and reach
Be able to work effectively as a part of a team, as well as having a 'can-do' attitude and a desire to challenge the status-quo
Have knowledge and an interest in in Data management
Be adaptable, self-motivated and willing to learn about all aspects of managing a key Defra service
Have experience working with spatial data and spatial web services
Have excellent organisation and communication skills
Have a drive to learn and develop
Have an understanding of Spatial and Linked Data APIs - this would be beneficial, but not essential
