MAC Recruit Group are delighted to partner with our Accountancy clients based in Glasgow to welcome an Accountant on a full-time and permanent basis. Reporting to the Practice Manager, you will become a trusted partner for the clients as you will assist them with personal financial affairs and help them plan for the future.



Responsibilities

  • Verify the accuracy of bookkeeping records in the client bookkeeping system.
  • Review figures for expenses, grants and allowances which can be claimed but haven’t been factored into the books as part of the bookkeeping.
  • Prepare self-assessment tax returns for sole traders, partners, directors and high-earning individuals (again, in TaxCalc). This involves knowledge on all aspects of personal income including PAYE, self-employment, rental income, investment & dividend income, capital gains and income from trusts.
  • Present options to clients with regards to tax efficient spending in advance of the business year-end
  • Advise clients on longer term tax planning options and strategies, including the use of holding companies and trusts for asset protection
  • Prepare a budget / forecast for clients to support reporting against targets and/or applications for funding
  • Seek to improve processes with any clients who are not conforming with the way we word. Investigate issues with the process, alert clients to the issues this causes and agree process improvements for the benefits of all.
  • Escalate complex challenges, issues and decisions to the practice director as appropriate
  • Manage client expectations with regards to meeting deadlines and any resulting penalties.
  • Engage with HMRC to investigate and resolve client issues
  • Develop relationships with partners in legal, investment, protection and funding roles.
  • Network with other accountants in practice and with your professional body


Skills and Characteristics

  • In possession of a professional accounting qualification from any of the recognised professional bodies. Can be part qualified is close to completion.
  • Excellent technical accounting skills in relation to the preparation of financial statements and tax returns for companies and individuals
  • Excellent knowledge of the UK tax regime
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills. Particular focus on Excel, with good skills in Word, Outlook and PowerPoint
