Job Description

Corporate Services

Accounting Technician (with AAT / CIPFA training)
Waverley Court, 4 East Market Street

Salary: £30,751 - £36,312
Hours: 36 per week

The City of Edinburgh Council is looking for an Accounting Technician to work across a variety of professional disciplines including management accounting, business partnering and financial accounting.

You will provide support and advice to service areas within the Council’s Operational Services Division, working flexibly as required but primarily supporting Neighbourhood Environmental Services (Waste and Cleansing, Parks & Greenspace, and Fleet services). You will work as part of a Finance team supporting budget development, revenue budget monitoring, financial reporting, annual accounts and the development and maintenance of effective internal controls. You will be a key point of contact for service managers. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who seeks to develop their career in Finance.

The successful candidate will be able to build strong relationships with our client services, Finance colleagues, and internal partners and will be able to analyse, interpret and communicate financial data clearly and effectively. Ideas and initiative are welcomed and encouraged as we continually look to identify ways to improve delivery of our services. IT skills are a must, particularly Microsoft Excel, and candidates should be able to use spreadsheets confidently and competently.

Successful applicants will be provided with the opportunity to undertake professional examinations through AAT / CIPFA.

Working for us means you will be able to benefit from:

  • Up to six weeks paid leave, inclusive of 6 public holidays in year, with a further increase of 5 days annual leave after five years of previous reckonable service or service with the Council
  • A career average local government pension scheme with generous employer contributions
  • Paid sickness absence, health and wellbeing support and other family friendly policies
  • Salary advances on public transport season tickets
  • Access to corporate discounts in shops, cinemas and other leisure venues

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

As part of our goal to improve our organisational culture and create a great place to work together for the people of Edinburgh, we want to make sure that we’re bringing the best people into our roles, not just in their skills and experience but also in their approach to work.

To help achieve this, we’re changing the way we interview and assess candidates by moving from a competency-based interview approach to a behavioural and technical (skills for the job) based approach. This new way of interviewing will allow us to assess how you think and how you would bring Our Behaviours of Respect, Integrity and Flexibility into your ways of working.

You can find out more on Our Behaviours web page Our Behaviours – The City of Edinburgh Council

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.
