Full Job Description

JOB PURPOSE

To be responsible for the development, implementation and ongoing management of the Active Schools service, maximising opportunities for children and young people to participate in sport and physical activity in school and the wider community. 

To be the strategic lead for Active Schools with sportscotland, supporting the development, implementation and delivery of the Partnership Agreement.


Major Tasks

• Lead and manage the effective integration, planning, management and delivery of Active Schools within Perth and Kinross, working in partnership with key national and local partners

• Recruit, line manage and support a team of Active Schools staff and ensure ongoing training and development opportunities

• Produce an Annual Active Schools Action Plan and Key Performance Indicators in agreement with the PEPAS Steering Group and sportscotland

• Manage the building of a sustainable volunteer network and appropriate volunteering infrastructure for Active Schools within Perth and Kinross, aligned to relevant local volunteering policies

• Work strategically with key national and local partners to increase the number and diversity of participants by adopting and implementing a targeted approach that is aimed at reducing inequalities

• Establish links with key partner agencies to develop an understanding of the needs of children and young people from under-represented groups

• Provide opportunities for all children to participate in physical activity and sport through actively supporting the creation of pathways from schools to the wider community

• Manage, develop and grow extended curricular physical activity and sport provision and an age and stage appropriate competitive school sport infrastructure for pupils across Perth and Kinross

• Work in partnership to develop, implement and seek to continuously improve a Coach and Official Education and Volunteering Programme aimed at young leaders. (LEAD Sport Pathway)

• Develop and manage positive relationships with PKC education staff, relevant national governing bodies, delivery partners, sports clubs, Perth UHI and other relevant organisations

• Ensure Active Schools outcomes are embedded within other relevant local and regional strategies.

• Ensure all Active Schools Coordinators attend National and Regional Active Schools training, development and networking opportunities and conferences

• Lead on monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the progress of the of the Active Schools Programme through internal Company reports and external ‘MySport’ data submission deadlines


Financial

• Contribute to the operational input to Budget Planning where appropriate

• Source additional funding opportunities to further enhance Active Schools 

• Manage and allocate a staffing and operational budget to an agreed Active Schools Partnership Agreement and Annual Action Plan

• To ensure compliance with the Company’s financial regulations and procedures

• Collaborate with partners to access partnership funding opportunities


Health and Safety

• To ensure the application of the Company’s requirements in respect of relevant Acts of Parliament, Statutory Regulations, Codes of Practice, etc

• To ensure the application of the Company’s Health & Safety Policies and the maintenance of safety records

• To ensure the application of safe operating procedures and that they are understood and implemented by all staff; reviewing where appropriate

• To ensure all requirements of Safeguarding are implemented


Human Resources

• To ensure, in liaison with the Human Resources Team, that all Company Human Resources Policies are maintained and adhered to 

• Lead on the recruitment and selection of staff within relevant departments

• Supervise and review performance of individuals within the Team

• Ensure individuals have the relevant skills to perform their duties and that appropriate development opportunities are identified accordingly


Other Responsibilities

• To undertake Corporate or other specific activity appropriate to the post as may be required by the Company

• Attend relevant meetings representing the Company

• To report to the Board or relevant Committees as required

• To attend regular staff training sessions; be they held in-house or externally

• Be an active participant and member of the company’s Operational Management team, supporting cross departmental working where applicable

• To support the Company’s Senior Management Team as required in relation to Corporate and Strategic matters involving Active Schools


General

• To ensure you are physically fit to carry out your duties at all times 

• Maintain confidentiality and observe data protection guidelines

• To carry out other reasonable duties as may be required
