We are looking for a Therapeutic Radiographer to join our friendly team at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee. We are seeking to recruit a HCPC Registered Therapeutic Radiographer with advanced knowledge and skills in all areas of the pre-treatment pathway. The post holder will be an integral member of the radiotherapy department and will be required to be competent and able to lead in pre-treatment areas as an advanced practitioner, providing expert knowledge in areas of CT, mould room and dosimetry planning, specialist technical advice, support to junior staff and other professional groups.

The post holder will be required to have attention to detail, and an ability to manage complex and stressful situations with calm efficiency.  They will be required to manage, advise and contribute to the workload of the pre-treatment areas on a day-to-day basis ensuring the delivery of safe and efficient care. The post holder is expected to be a dynamic individual who is adaptable, confident with change and able to deliver outstanding patient care.

Radiotherapy services are provided for the population of Tayside and North East Fife, delivering around 1400 new courses each year for a broad spectrum of cancers as well as providing specialist treatments including brachytherapy and SABR. The Radiotherapy Department currently houses three Varian linear accelerators, one Canon Aquillion Wide Bore CT scanner, mould room facilities, HDR brachytherapy facilities and Raystation treatment planning system. We have a VERT compact system offering huge potential for education and training. We are a paper light department currently expanding our use of VMAT and IGRT as well as having an exciting programme of equipment replacement and planning system upgrades over the next year.

Tayside is a thriving region of Scotland, close to larger cities such as Edinburgh and Glasgow without sharing their high cost of living.  The average cost of rent in Dundee for example is 48% less than Edinburgh and around 25% less than the Scottish national average.  In 2019, Dundee City was voted Sunday Times Best Place to live to win this award the judges were looking for appealing and affordable housing, access to good schools, attractive parks, green spaces, accessible cultural activities, good transport links and a strong sense of community spirit.

Dundee has excellent transport links to the rest of the UK.  Dundees railway station is located right at the heart of the city centre, close to the cities new £1 billion waterfront regeneration transformation and the banks of the River Tay. There are direct rail services to and from Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow, all of which are less than 90 minutes away. From London Kings Cross, the direct journey is around 6.5 hours by train.  Dundees airport is walking distance, located just 3km from the centre and offers direct flights to both  London City.

Hours of work are: 37.0 hours per week

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
