Full Job Description

  • Primarily, you'll focus on the hands-on implementation of the labs mobile application features. We're looking to be number one in the UK banking market and have a range of exciting developments that you'll be central to implementing.
  • You'll spend most of your time being a technical hands-on developer and act as an authority developing in Kotlin and Java, utilising the Android SDK and Jetpack Compose.
  • Act as a technical authority in your area! You'll help mentor and coach upcoming to mid-level engineers, but you won't have formal line management responsibilities.
  • Work as part of a self-organised engineering team, collaborating with solution architects & UI/UX designers to deliver mobile app features that delight all our customers through their ease and immediacy.
  • Be a technical specialist and authority in your field, representing both the Digital Card & Ways to Pay Lab and the wider Everyday Banking Platform.
  • You'll work closely with the product and engineering leads to achieve the vision and customer outcomes for your Lab, through writing well-factored and tested code.
  • Be curious about technology and understanding how things work. You'll influence and innovate, aiming for engineering excellence at every opportunity.

    Significant experience as a Senior Android Engineer and a passion to remain hands on technical.
  • Excellent programming skills with a deep working knowledge of Kotlin and Java, utilising the Android SDK and Jetpack Compose along with fantastic knowledge of the open-source Android eco-system.
  • Diverse technical experience and a proven track record to deliver high quality mobile customer experiences across variable screen sizes and Android versions, you can act as an authority on best practice Android app architecture, principles and patterns.
  • Experience mentoring staff up to senior engineering level. This is not a formal line management role, however as a senior management level technical specialist we would like you to be comfortable guiding and mentoring.
  • You're an advocate for quality and can support the team using approaches such as CI/CD best practice, pair programming, secure coding, TDD and BDD
  • Desirable:
  • Working in the public cloud domain at scale, utilising hosted CI/CD pipeline and integrating the Android app with public cloud APIs.

    Salary & Benefits: £86,964 to £118,420 per annum (experience AND location dependent), plus annual personal bonus, 15% employer pension contribution, flexible benefits package, private medical insurance, 30 days holiday plus bank holidays.
