The educational element of the ASCO apprenticeship is through the attainment of the SVQ Level 3 Logistics Operations. As an ASCO apprentice you will demonstrate the energy, commitment, and motivation to learn and carry out all aspects of this hands-on role, whilst developing their communication skills to fully integrate with the Warehouse Team. The role will assist the efficient and effective operation of the receipts, storage, maintenance, cycle count, preparation for shipment and inventory functions

Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Receiving and Inspecting Goods:


  • oAssist in receiving and inspecting incoming shipments.

    oCheck for damaged or missing items.

    oVerify the accuracy of received goods against purchase orders.

  • Inventory Management:


  • oAssist in maintaining accurate inventory records.

    oParticipate in regular stock checks and cycle counts.

    oReport discrepancies and work on resolving them.

  • Storage and Organisation:


  • oHelp organise and store goods in designated locations.

    oEnsure that items are stored in a way that prevents damage and allows for easy retrieval.

    oAssist in maintaining a clean and organised warehouse space.

  • Order Picking and Packing:


  • oLearn the process of picking items from the warehouse to fulfill customer orders.

    oAssist in packing and preparing orders for shipment.

    oEnsure that orders are accurate and well-packaged.

  • Material Handling:


  • oOperate material handling equipment such as forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks (after appropriate training and certification).

    oFollow safety protocols for handling and moving goods within the warehouse.

  • Shipping and Receiving:


  • oAssist in preparing goods for outbound shipments.

    oCoordinate with carriers for timely deliveries.

    oEnsure proper documentation for outgoing shipments.

  • Quality Control:


  • oParticipate in quality control processes to ensure the integrity of stored goods.

    oReport any quality issues or defects promptly.

  • Communication:


  • oCommunicate effectively with team members and other departments.

    oReport any issues or concerns to supervisors promptly.

  • Compliance and Safety:


  • oAdhere to safety guidelines and procedures.

    oFollow company policies and procedures related to warehouse operations.

  • National 5 Standard Grades (or equivalent)


  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills


  • Attention to detail and good organisational skills


  • IT literacy

    A current passport endorsed to show that the holder is allowed to stay in the UK and is currently allowed to do the type of work in question
    A current Biometric Immigration Document (Biometric Residence Permit) issued by the Home Office to the holder which indicates that the named person can currently stay in the UK and is allowed to do the work in question
    A current Immigration Status Document containing a photograph issued by the Home Office to the holder with a valid endorsement indicating that the named person may stay in the UK, and is allowed to do the type of work in question, together with an official document giving the person's permanent National Insurance number and their name issued by a Government agency or a previous employer
    An Application Registration Card issued by the Home Office stating that the holder is permitted to take the employment in question
