Full Job Description

The Asset Condition & Engineering Manager is responsible for assessing and predicting the performance, integrity and condition of new and existing Transmission assets and enabling timely interventions to maintain SSEN Transmission Asset Portfolio.

The key responsibilities of the Asset Condition & Engineering Manager are:

- Provide asset condition information and reports based upon internal sources and material pertaining to the health and functionality of the asset. Take direction, advice and actions from the Transmission Asset Management Steering Group, managing and shaping the direction of ACE team activities to support the continuous development of the Transmission Asset Management Systems to ensure delivery of current regulatory (RIIO) business plan objectives and contribute to the building of future (RIIO) plans.

- Responsible for the budgets for utilising and coordinating engineering consultants and specialised service providers for asset related research, studies, assessments and investigations that will assist Asset Management and Operations in the continuous improvement, understanding and performance of Transmission assets.

- Identify gaps in current information systems associated with fixed assets and circuits, such as Maximo, ArcGIS and Vault. Driving the improvements to ensure efficient management of the validity, quality, completeness and accuracy around Transmission assets within these systems.

- Accountability for the specific shape and alignment of up to 20 specialised engineering staff, with the additional responsibility of guiding up to 3 graduates or summer placement students. Responsible for the development of the team, supporting where necessary training to up-skill existing team members and promoting exploration of new technologies or thinking to overcome obstacles and challenges.

- Actively promote safe working practices in the team and the wider SSEN Transmission business and the reduction of health, safety and environmental risk when altering or extending the network.

Degree qualified or time served, preferably in an engineering area, supplemented by Asset Management qualifications to diploma level.

- Good Asset Management experience gained from time served in infrastructure organisations paired with people management skills, and experience of leading and motivating medium sized teams, projects and programmes within Asset Management.

- Sound business and technical knowledge of electricity Transmission or similar market sector with experience of developing / managing business plans and within financial targets.

- Awareness of key stakeholders and customers for electricity Transmission and experience of successfully meeting customer/ stakeholder needs with ability to network (internally and externally) to represent the interests of SSEN Transmission.

- Ability and knowledge to engage on safety at all levels and instil a high performing safety culture.
