About Us


The Northern Lighthouse Board is the General Lighthouse Authority for Scotland and the Isle of Man, responsible for the superintendence and management of all lighthouses, buoys and beacons within those waters. We have provided this vital safety service to mariners since 1786.


The Role – Overview

 

Based at the Board’s Headquarters in central Edinburgh (with the option of hybrid working), as Asset Engineer you will support the technical management of all NLB Lights, Buildings and Vehicles ensuring they meet the highest standards of safety, environmental compliance, legal compliance, and efficiency through life to satisfy business requirements. You will monitor and report on asset condition, compliance safety and reliability through defect /maintenance reporting analysis and site visits, identify and develop specifications for appropriate solutions and monitor the implementation of the solutions.


Qualifications/ Experience Required

 

•       Ideally you will currently hold an IEng Professional Qualification (or be working towards) or Degree in Electrical / Building Services Engineering. Or an equivalent HNC coupled with demonstrable experience within electrical maintenance / asset management roles.

•       Knowledge of Building Services Inspection, Maintenance and Refurbishment processes relating to industrial / historic structures and significant working experience in applying this knowledge. This experience should predominantly be from an electrical bias

•       Knowledge of the International ISO55000 series of standards and experience of this system

•       Knowledge and experience of working to Electrical Safe Systems of Work

•       Good interpersonal & communication skills

 

Salary and Benefits

 

·      £54,954 per annum rising to £60,441 per annum after 1 year in post

·      A Civil Service Pension with an average employer contribution of 28%

·      Annual Leave allowance of 25 days, rising by 1 day per year of service up to 30 days
