Assistant Accountant (Compliance and Control)


This post is based at Link’s Edinburgh office. However, hybrid working is available with this role.


The Role

Link is looking for an Assistant Accountant who will play a major role in the accounting and administration of all tax, insurance and treasury management within the group. This includes playing a vital role in managing the month-end period closure processes including bank reconciliations.


The role involves preparation and coordination of quarterly group VAT return including running reports, analysis, compilation of the return and filing with HMRC. Construction Industry Scheme (CIS) reporting and monthly return which includes the submission of tax deductions from new contractors to HMRC and monthly reconciliation of the CIS tax control account.


The successful candidate will coordinate and gather group insurance renewal information and be the principal contact for insurance within the organisation. In addition, maintaining significant knowledge of the business operations and the insurance market is required for this role.


About You

You will be educated to Higher level or equivalent in Accounting and Finance, Mathematics and English or be able to demonstrate experience showing competency in these subjects at this level. 


The successful candidate will have strong numeracy and literacy skills as well as being computer literate with Microsoft packages including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word. 


Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop effective relationships with colleagues and external organisations is essential combined with a customer-focused approach to service delivery. 


This role requires proven analytical and problem-solving skills and an investigative approach with attention to detail as well as having experience of using Financial Computer Systems and preparing a variety of financial reconciliation.
