Full Job Description

We have a new and exciting opportunity to join our Nature Restoration Team as an Assistant Ecologist, working alongside our Senior Ecologist to drive impactful change. As a vital member of the team, you will provide advice and support across our entire programme of work, including at Dundreggan, in Affric Highlands, and with external partners. This role is perfect for someone with knowledge of the ecology, wildlife and habitats of the Scottish Highlands, particularly its woodlands - and a passion to revive them.

Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Knowledge of the ecology, wildlife and habitats of the Scottish Highlands, particularly its woodlands.

  • Learn and apply the Wild Trees survey methodology to identify habitat remnants from historic data, biodiversity hotspots, threatened areas and recovery potential.

  • Support the design and implementation of monitoring programmes for ecological projects, ensuring effective management and adaptation.

  • Assist with woodland herbivore impact assessments and peat depth surveys to assess habitat condition and restoration needs.

  • Analyse and interpret survey data using GIS tools, presenting findings, making recommendations and providing reports., Join the supportive and fun team at our Rewilding Centre. Offering flexible schedules with a variety of morning, afternoon or evening shifts. While we provide full training, experience in hospitality; a café or housekeeping setting, or accommodation coordination would be beneficial.   • Supporting the guest experience from pre-arrival until checkout

  • Cleaning all areas of the Rewilding Centre and Accommodation block in line with housekeeping schedule (excluding Rewilding Centre main kitchen).

  • Replenishing paper towels, toilet rolls, soap and sanitisers in all toilets.

  • Emptying waste bins and ensuring they are disposed of correctly across the whole centre and in line with relevant legislation.

  • Cleaning all fixtures and fittings as per the housekeeping schedule.

  • Cleaning all rooms after use and ready for the next group as per timetabled activities.

  • Communicating to the facilities manager when cleaning consumables are to be reordered to ensure supplies are constant


  • Catering
  • Assisting with the preparation and serving of all meals and beverages to customers.

  • Supporting the kitchen team as necessary

  • Liaising with the Cafe Supervisor/Head Chef to make sure there is an adequate choice of menu items throughout the day.

  • Knowing what is on the menu and what it contains.

  • Making sure allergy and dietary information is clearly displayed for all food/drink.

  • Ensuring that the service areas are clean and tidy at all times and food hygiene/health and safety regulations are followed.

  • Maintaining outstanding levels of customer service, processing sales quickly and accurately and efficient use of till operations.

  • Assist with the cleaning of all crockery, cutlery and service utensils within the Centre.

  • Contribute towards the delivery of hospitality and events around the Centre including the set-up, service and clear down as required, We are currently looking for new trustees to join the board of Trees for Life, inviting applications from people who live in Scotland and are passionate about rewilding.
