An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Assistant Head Cook based at University Hospital Ayr.

What you will do:

We have an excellent opportunity for an organised person with kitchen management skills within University Hospital Ayr.

The main kitchen at University Hospital Ayr provides in excess of 2000 patients prepared and cooked meals every day, including therapeutic diets to patients, as well as meal services for the staff and the public within our retail areas. In addition, we also cater for Biggart and Ailsa Hospitals as well providing meals to clients within SAC and provide hospitality for meetings and functions.

Your duties will include the man management of staff, responsibility for communication and direction of all staff within your area.

You will organise staff duty rotas to include leave, in house training provision of high quality, safe and cost-effective catering service to patients, staff and visitors.

You will maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout all Catering Departments to include main kitchen, dining areas, washing-up of all equipment, machinery, crockery, and cutlery associated with the catering service.

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

Experience in large scale catering, preferably within NHS would be advantageous but not essential as full training will be given. You should have the ability to work on your own initiative and as part of a team. Good communication skills are essential.

You will be expected to hold a City and Guilds 706/1 and 706/2 or an SVQ/NVQ qualification is essential.

Hours: 36 per week, working 5 days over 7 days.

A degree of flexibility is essential, applicants who wish to be considered, must be available to cover shifts within the department between the hours of 0630 and 1900 including weekends.
