We are currently looking for talented and motivated Assistant Highways Engineers to join our teams in Glasgow and Edinburgh. These roles can be worked flexibly, with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times. Our highway engineering teams are recognised industry leaders, and operate across several markets including strategic roads, local roads, and private developments. Our current portfolio of projects include trunk road and motorway schemes, local authority road network improvements, active travel and public realm projects across Scotland and beyond. Some of our recent projects include : The Queensferry Crossing, Cross Tay Link Road; Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside; M9 Winchburgh Interchange; and Aberdeen South Harbour Link Road. We work for a range of clients including national government agencies, local authorities, private developers and contractors. We use the latest design software and techniques to produce innovative and efficient design solutions for our clients with safety and sustainability at the forefront of our minds. What does the role involve? Working as an Assistant Engineer in the Highways teams we'll offer you exposure to varied project work, both operating client side and in a design and build environment working on publicly funded and private developer projects. You will undertake (engineering) design and development through the application of proven techniques and procedures to develop appropriate solutions to client problems including :
- Undertaking elements of design from road geometry, drainage, and pavement to road restraint systems and traffic signs and road markings.
- Producing design outputs such as drawings, specifications, schedules, reports and calculations etc, to achieve the optimum solution for the project.
- Working in close collaboration with your team and other design disciplines and have an appreciation of their role.
- Ensuring deliverables are carried out within agreed timescales and budgets.
- Ensuring that solutions meet client needs and expectations are met / exceeded.
- Liaising with our clients and contractors and supervising works on site when required.
- Ensuring that all work is carried out to the Company's IMS, and current H&S legislation requirements. You will take ownership and responsibility for the quality of work you produce and be fully committed to your professional development through a mix of our in-house training opportunities and engaging with professional institution activities., Sweco UK&I have an internal resourcing team who are responsible for all recruiting activity. We have a Preferred Supplier List of trusted agencies who we work with on those "hard to fill" roles. We have defined processes for recruitment applications and it is company policy not to accept speculative CVs. - A relevant degree and be working towards achieving a relevant professional qualification.
- Experience of the planning and delivery of elements of highway projects or work packages on larger multi-disciplinary projects.
- Experience of undertaking highway geometry design in accordance with the DMRB, and desirably Manual for Streets, using Bentley OpenRoads or Civils 3D software.
- Experience of highway ancillary works design and MCHW specification production would be an advantage but not essential.
- Strong experience of AutoCAD and a sound understanding of its integration with the BIM environment.
- The confidence to present design solutions and progress both internally and externally to clients and stakeholders.
- A desire to learn, progress and challenge yourself.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
