Full Job Description

Rutherford Cross is delighted to be partnering with a well-known public-sector organisation in order to appoint an Assistant Project Accountant. This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant looking to develop and advance their career within a supportive and dynamic environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the accurate and timely production of financial returns required for financial reporting, including statutory reporting, internal reporting, reporting to partners/Group/other stakeholders
  • Assist with the business case process, from initial review to tracking benefits post-implementation whilst ensuring that appropriate audit trail exists throughout the process
  • Support in ensuring visibility of project performance at all stages of the project life cycle, from business case proposal through to project completion
  • Responsible for ensuring that the Fixed Asset Register is accurately maintained and assist in periodic reviews of Work-In-Progress balances
  • Assist in ensuring that project status’ are updated on milestone achievements and that relevant accounting records are held to support all stages of a project.
  • Support in reviewing cost classifications with regards to Capital costs and Operating costs, ensuring all costs are correctly accounted for
  • Responsible for the preparation and presentation of monthly P&L review of live project portfolio
  • Assist with preparation of the quarterly P&L forecast, CapEx forecast and cashflow forecast of projects
  • Prepare and post journal entries to the Ledger as required
  • Assist with performing reconciliations and other appropriate controls surrounding the Ledger, investigating variances and escalating these as required
  • Assist with the statutory year end and group year-end process, ensuring delivery to various stakeholder deadlines and compliance with business planning
  • Build strong working relationships with key stakeholders, providing guidance and support as appropriate

Ideal Candidate:

  • Part-Qualified Accountant (ACCA/CIMA or equivalent)
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • IT literate with high level of proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Understanding of accounting and business compliance matters (IFRS, VAT, Corporation tax, etc.)
  • Driven to achieve efficiencies with a commercial focus
