Full Job Description

As an Assistant Project Engineer in Works Delivery Signalling, you will provide support to the Project Engineer for a varied project portfolio., which includes Minor Signalling Renewals; Rolling Programmes; Performance Improvements; Level Crossing renewals and Life Extension Works across the whole of Scotland Route. You will assist the project engineer with internal staff site surveillance plans, internal/external competency reviews and take part in workshops to discuss safety and operational risks. You will work closely with internal and external design/installation/test teams, assist with material procurement, technical work scope compilation and assist with all engineering aspects of projects from inception to development/design, delivery and hand back. Works Delivery Signalling is a fast paced, varied and determined department dedicated to providing safe, compliant and value for money upgrades/renewals to meet the needs of our clients, and are looking for an enthusiastic
individual to join our team.

About the role (External)

Here are some of the duties your role will include: -

· Assist the Project Engineer in the preparation of specifications and job estimates.

· Assist the Project Engineer in the supervision of design development and the checking of designs.

· Assist the Project Engineer in the monitoring of construction work to monitor compliance with design, standards, and legislation.

· Assist the Project Engineer in the development and maintenance of quality systems throughout the lifecycle of projects.

· Maintain a log demonstrating your own development and achievements towards meeting the competency requirements to discharge the role of a Project Engineer.

· Assist with briefing quarterly Standards cascades.

· Assist in aligning engineering deliverables with Project Acceleration in a Controlled Environment (PACE) and Entry Into Service requirements.

· Assist with the monitoring of staff site surveillance plans.

· Engineering qualification in a relevant discipline (GNVQ, ONC, HNC, Degree).

· Analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Good communication skills (verbal and written).

· Understanding of railway operations.
