We manage payments on behalf of the business, payroll, pensions and process staff expenses. We provide full Board support on all finance matters including support to business development initiatives as well as financial modelling to support decision making.

The Tax function (incorporating both the Group Tax and Product and Investment Tax teams) sits within the wider Finance Department and provides support to the business on all tax issues impacting the Baillie Gifford Group ('the Group') and its managed investment funds.

Purpose of Role

The Tax function (incorporating both the Group Tax and Product and Investment Tax teams) sits within the wider Finance Department and provides support to the business on all tax issues impacting the Baillie Gifford Group ('the Group') and its managed investment funds.

This position is an excellent opportunity to join the Group Tax team reporting to the Senior Tax Manager (Group Tax) and the individual will play a key role in helping to deliver the Group Tax function.

The role will be varied and will range from assisting with advisory work (across a range of taxes and jurisdictions) to involvement in transfer pricing, as well as tax reporting and compliance.

You'll help to strengthen Baillie Gifford's tax processes and controls, work closely with colleagues in the wider Finance Department and beyond and help to ensure tax requirements are delivered effectively across the Group.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with a wide range of UK and international tax advisory matters such as establishment in new territories, monitoring permanent establishment issues, tax residence, cash repatriation and providing support to business initiatives.

  • Responsible for the Group's global transfer pricing documentation requirements and country-by-country reporting (CbCR) requirements. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our global transfer pricing documentation provider.

  • Providing support with the Group's tax governance framework including CCO risk assessment, evidencing SAO requirements and general tax governance.

  • Assist the Senior Tax Manager (Group Tax) with the Group's adoption of the new Pillar 2 regulatory requirements including helping to resolve technical issues on adoption and helping to build the Group's compliance solution.

  • Provide support to the Tax Manager (Group Tax) with respect to the Group's global tax compliance and reporting obligations (circa 13 jurisdictions, including UK, US, China, and Ireland). This includes preparing UK tax returns and reviewing overseas tax returns and forms, ensuring tax payments are calculated and paid in a timely manner and liaising with global tax advisers.

  • Work with the wider Finance function on the year-end tax accounting, provisions and tax disclosure notes included in financial statements. This role will include helping to build a more robust year-end tax accounting and reporting process.

  • Stay abreast of relevant UK and international tax changes, monitor and track this and work with the Group Tax team to advise the business of any implications that may arise.

  • Provide support and assistance to the wider Group Tax team as required.

A corporate tax background with exposure to tax accounting, reporting and compliance.

  • Relevant experience in UK and/or international tax advisory work.

  • Exposure to some of the following areas would be desirable (not all required) - withholding taxes, transfer pricing, permanent establishment risks, tax residence, Pillar II, tax governance and tax technology.
