Position

An opportunity has arisen for a permanent Assistant Technical Officer based at University Hospital Crosshouse.

What you will do:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Technical Officer to work within our busy, friendly and dynamic multidisciplinary team, which provides a national cochlear implant service for profoundly deaf adults and children in Scotland. You will be based at our modern, well established clinic at Crosshouse Hospital.

You will assist in the assessment of profoundly deaf adults and children before and after cochlear implantation.  This involves using software to test patients listening skills and recording the results.  You will also undertake reception area duties and provide technical support for patients in the provision of a spares and repairs service (by post and on a one-to-one basis).

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

You should have good general education.  Good verbal and written communication skills are essential to facilitate assessments of speech and hearing in hearing impaired patients.  Good hearing and effective listening skills are required to validate patient responses in tests of speech and hearing.

IT skills are required, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.

This is a thriving, busy department and we are looking for a candidate who works well within a team, has a good work ethos and has good interpersonal skills.  Experience of, or enthusiasm for working with hearing impaired individuals and their family/carers is essential.
