An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and experienced Associate Director to join a prestigious architectural firm in their Glasgow office. This role is ideal for a confident and proactive individual with a strong background in business development within the architecture sector. You will be expected to build on your existing expertise, foster client relationships, and drive growth across multiple sectors as well as lead teams and ensure projects are delivered to the highest standard.
As an Associate Director, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of this office by securing new business opportunities and expanding the firm’s client base. With a proven track record in business development, you will be expected to identify and pursue strategic opportunities that align with the firm’s long-term objectives. Your experience in managing and nurturing client relationships will be essential in maintaining and growing the firm’s reputation for delivering outstanding design and service.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has worked in a senior role within an architectural practice and is ready to take on more responsibility. The firm values individuals who can blend creative insight with commercial acumen and possess the leadership skills to motivate and support a diverse team. As Associate Director, you will work closely with senior leadership to influence the strategic direction of your office and ensure the firm’s vision and goals are achieved.
Business development is at the core of your role, and you will thrive in a client-facing environment. You will be responsible for engaging with potential clients, leading pitches, and winning new projects across a range of sectors, including residential, commercial, and educational developments. You will have the chance to shape the firm’s growth strategy, working with colleagues to develop tailored proposals and identify new business avenues. A strong understanding of the architecture market and a network of relevant industry contacts will be key assets in your success.
What do you need?
- Established BD history and keen to progress up the ladder within a leading private practice.
- Excellent working relationship with Clients
- Willing to travel as some of this practice’s work is based across the UK – primarily the North of England.
- A demonstrable portfolio working across Science, Healthcare or Extra Care would be highly desirable.
- Eager to progress and interested in being a director in the future.
- Sustainability knowledge (Net zero ) or Passivhaus experience
- Exceptional knowledge and experience working on both design and technical RIBA stages.
The firm places a strong emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and sustainability, and you will be expected to uphold these values in all aspects of your work. You will lead by example, supporting your team in the delivery of high-quality projects while maintaining a focus on business development and long-term client relationships. Your role will also involve contributing to the firm’s marketing strategy, working alongside marketing teams to enhance the firm’s visibility and presence in the marketplace.
The ideal candidate will have significant experience in a private practice environment, ideally in an architectural practice or a closely related industry, and will be a confident communicator, ideally with a strong client network. You will also have a thorough understanding of the architectural design process and be comfortable discussing complex projects with clients, consultants, and stakeholders. Experience working in a leadership role, with the ability to inspire and guide a team, is essential. This position offers the opportunity to join a respected firm that values creativity, expertise, and the ability to deliver exceptional results for clients.
In return, the firm offers a supportive and dynamic environment where your professional growth will be encouraged. As Associate Director, you will have the opportunity to shape your career, contribute to the growth of the Glasgow office, and help drive the firm’s continued success. If you are looking for a challenging and rewarding opportunity in a forward-thinking and ambitious firm, this is the role for you.
