Full Job Description

RPS is looking for an Associate Director to join our Built Heritage Team. This is a rare opportunity for a consultant to take on and develop an existing client base. We are looking to recruit an Associate Director. but would also consider appointing at Director level for the right candidate. The position will be nominally based in our London office but, following our adoption of agile working practices we will consider candidates based across the country (who could instead work from our Newark, Gloucester, Abingdon or Edinburgh offices). The successful candidate is likely to need to attend the office at least one day per week.

You will be part of an experienced heritage team working on many of the biggest and most complicated heritage projects in the country. We offer an unrivalled range of project experience, working with English Heritage and Historic Royal Palaces, major developers and regeneration leaders, and individual property owners. We offer the opportunity to work as part of major interdisciplinary teams and innovating architects to provide outstanding new developments.

What you will be doing

· Preparation of Heritage Statements, Environmental Statements and Listed Building Consent applications

· Line management and mentoring of junior staff

· Business development

· Liaison with clients, local planning authorities and relevant stakeholders

· Expert Witness work, potentially including attendance at Public Inquiries

· Financial management of projects, to ensure they advance on time and to budget

We are looking to recruit Built Heritage experts with a pragmatic approach to the historic environment, leading our clients to find solutions to heritage constraints. You should be technically experienced and positive motivated to engage with relevant stakeholders to help play a part in delivery of the 1.5million homes promised this parliament together with much needed distribution and infrastructure. Our ideal candidate will have a proven track record of providing heritage advice on major projects; experience of providing expert witness and have Associate or Full Membership of the IHBC. You must hold a relevant degree in the conservation of historic buildings and places and a strong knowledge of the planning system.
