Associate – Environmental Impact Assessment & Reporting (12 months FTC)

Location: Edinburgh or Glasgow

The Scottish National Investment Bank is seeking an Associate - Environmental Impact Assessment & Reporting to join our dedicated Climate Impact team. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to our ambitious environmental goals and support Scotland’s transition to a net-zero economy.

As an Associate in our Impact team, you will play a vital role in advancing the Bank’s environmental ambitions. Reporting to the Director - Climate Impact, you will support the delivery of our climate strategy and carbon management plan, ensuring that both our operational activities and investment portfolios align with our net-zero objectives.

Your responsibilities will include assisting with the upkeep of our emissions reporting platform, helping portfolio companies define and measure their carbon emissions, and supporting them on their journey to net-zero. Additionally, you will contribute to the Bank’s voluntary and statutory environmental reporting requirements, offering guidance on both international and domestic environmental standards.

This role also involves working closely with investment teams to assess climate-related risks and explore potential investment opportunities in climate resilience and natural capital.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Net Zero Ambitions: Assist in the delivery of the Bank’s climate strategy, carbon management plan, and related projects.
  • Emissions Reporting: Help maintain the Bank’s reporting platform, focusing on measuring the emissions profiles of portfolio companies and supporting their efforts to achieve net-zero.
  • Environmental Policy Development: Work with portfolio companies to define their emissions boundaries, measure their carbon output, and develop comprehensive environmental policies.
  • Compliance and Reporting: Assist in fulfilling the Bank’s environmental reporting obligations and provide guidance on relevant environmental standards and regulations.
  • Climate Risk Assessment: Support the delivery of investment-specific Climate Risk Assessments, including evaluating physical and transition risks.
  • Investment Opportunities: Collaborate with investment teams to identify and assess potential climate-related and natural capital investment opportunities.

We are looking for a passionate and knowledgeable individual with a strong commitment to environmental sustainability. The ideal candidate will have:

  • A relevant degree in Environmental Science (or a related field) or relevant environmental qualification.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a relevant technical or professional discipline.
  • The ability to work autonomously and foster effective relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • A belief in the Bank’s mission and a desire to make a positive impact on Scotland’s environmental future.
  • An understanding of the financial sector is desirable.

If you are passionate about driving environmental change and eager to contribute to a mission-driven organisation, we encourage you to apply. The Scottish National Investment Bank offers a dynamic and supportive culture that values your expertise and autonomy, encourages continuous learning, and provides opportunities for meaningful work. The salary range is £51-59k, depending on experience, with additional benefits including 30 days annual leave plus public holidays, a 12% non-contributory pension, volunteer days, and more. We operate a hybrid working model and are open to discussing flexible working patterns.
