This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated senior nurse or midwife to join the collective Acute Services Leadership team in the role of Associate Nurse/Midwife Director on a permanent basis. Reporting directly to the Nurse Director for Acute Services, the role is to support the acute operational unit in the achievement of its shared objectives. The AND/AMD role has professional line responsibilities to core Quality and Safety business, including workforce planning of Nursing and Midwifery staff, Health and Wellbeing, governance and assurance and Infection, Prevention and Control. 

You will provide leadership ensuring the nursing and midwifery workforce develop and deliver high quality, safe, person centred and compassionate care to the people of Tayside.  This will be through ensuing nursing and midwifery care is delivered through evidence-based care and intervention consistently through the service areas.

The Associate Nurse/Midwife Director will ensure effective communication systems are in place for the communication of professional nursing and midwifery issues, advice and professional leadership primarily within their respective sphere of responsibility, reflecting NHS Taysides values and vision.

The areas of responsibility with be agreed with successful applicants once in post, matched to skill and experience and will have leadership responsibilities within the divisions which are as follows:

  • Medicine
  • Access and Assurance
  • Women, Children and Families,
  • Surgery  

Additionally, they will provide associate nurse director level leadership relating to NHS Taysides annual delivery.

You will have a proven track record accompanied with extensive experience in a senior nursing or midwifery leadership role. You will have successful experience of managing patient safety, service improvement and quality, integrating professional nursing perspectives with service strategy. The ability to think strategically and analytically, good influencing and negotiation skills alongside the ability to deliver change are crucial to this role.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and adaptable individual who will enjoy working in a challenging environment. The post holder must be a Registered Nurse / Midwife with post registration experience gained in a variety of nursing environments to a level of seniority commensurate with this post. Integral to this will be providing professional leadership and advice to nurses, midwives and other colleagues at a variety of levels across the organisation.

Additionally, professional knowledge acquired through education at Masters Level or can demonstrate portfolio of evidence commensurate with Masters Level study.

You must be registered on Sub-part 1:Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife of the NMC Register.  Please note that the organisational chart I the job description requires updating.

Hours of work are:  37* Monday to Friday with an on-call commitment as well as rostered weekend working through this.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.
