Full Job Description

Salary range:  £25,742-£28,759 pro rata per annum

FTE:  Minimum 200 guaranteed hours

Term:  Fixed term (12 months)

Closing date:  2 October 2024

The University is looking to appoint an Audio Visual/Event Production Technician on a fixed term, flexible hours basis to join the team which supports commercial and corporate event activity within our award-winning Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC), across the campus, and on our new virtual event platform.

The Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) is the University’s flagship research facility, opened by HM The Queen in July 2015. TIC is home to £11m of dedicated, flexible conferencing facilities, and has quickly established itself as one the country’s most popular venues for business events and academic meetings, hosting more than 600 events and 42,000 delegates in academic year 2022/23 alone. The venue won the Bronze award for UK Best Academic Venue at the Meetings & Incentive Travel awards magazine in March 2019; was named Best Academic Venue at the CHS Awards in June 2019; Best Scottish Venue & Events Team at the E Awards in 2023 and is a proud holder of Green Tourism Gold accreditation.

The Technician is part of the Conference Operations team and, working alongside a colleague, provides technical support and advice on a range of audio-visual technologies and solutions installed across TIC’s Auditoria and Conference/Meeting Rooms, as well as the University’s online event platform, which is powered by EventsAIR.

The successful candidate will be an experienced and confident audio-visual technician, familiar with a range of audio-visual technologies and virtual collaboration/event platforms, and with a background in the production and delivery of business events and conferences.
The post-holder will be guaranteed 200 hours of work annually, and will be scheduled on a week-to-week basis for shifts which are normally between four and eight hours in duration. Shift patterns will depend on the needs of the business, but will regularly include hours outside the normal working week, i.e. early mornings, evenings and weekends, throughout the year.

Strathclyde’s Conferencing & Events team is renowned for its customer focus, and it’s important that the post-holder is as professional and people-oriented as they are technically-capable. The post will suit an ambitious individual who is keen to learn about and deploy new technologies, and in so doing, contribute to the ongoing development of the University’s conference and meeting offer.

Interviews are scheduled to take place on 11 October 2024.
