Position

An opportunity has arisen for a Bank Speech and Language Therapist based University Hospital Ayr.

Are you a qualified and dysphagia trained Speech and Language Therapist we are currently looking for two positions to work on the Bank within an adult SLT team? If so please come and be part of a dynamic, innovative, friendly and welcoming team of Speech and Language Therapists in University Hospital Ayr.

The South Ayrshire Adult SLT team operate a single system model and work across an acute hospital, a community hospital, and community services. We work in partnership with colleagues in health, social care, voluntary services, and the third sector to provide a genuinely person-centred service in a variety of locations, including remote working. You will be well supported by a number of speech therapists and assistant practitioners. This post holder will work within the South Ayrshire Adult In patient team as Bank member of staff.

What you will do:

  • work as part of the Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service
  • be accountable for own professional actions within codes of practice, professional guidelines and policies including defined occupational policies
  • assess, diagnose and treat and maintain associated records
  • work in consultation with patients, clients, families, carers, healthcare staff and Multi-Disciplinary/Multi-Agency Teams
  • represent the specialist contribution of Speech and Language Therapy Services in range of multidisciplinary/multi-agency forum within and out with the organisation as required by the Service Lead
  • participate in a range of delegated clinical and non-clinical activities relating to service objectives with a designated portfolio of service development activities

Knowledge, training and/or experience required to do the job:

  • Dysphagia competencies are essential for this post.
  • Relevant University Degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Sciences
  • Certificate to Practice from Health Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Extensive experience within a variety of clinical areas
  • Evidence of  further development of competencies within a specialist area, and demonstrable ability to be an autonomous practitioner
  • Evidence of understanding the principles of quality improvement methodology
  • Experience of working in NHS, Local Authority or a caring setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrate relevant digital competencies.
  • Car driver/Car licence is essential
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience of working with individuals and their families in a supportive role
  • Self-motivated
