Full Job Description

We are looking for an experienced professional with a high level of Building Repairs and Maintenance skills to join an established Maintenance and Heritage Team.

The post will be responsible for assessing and implementing the Council's responses to repairs and maintenance of the Council's housing and public buildings.

Duties will include managing day to day repairs and improvement works, responding to reactive repairs, undertaking property repair inspections, assessing remedial repairs, instructing works, co-ordinating and monitoring contractor related quality and performance issues, and assessing invoices for instructed works and authorising payments.

You will also be undertaking property condition surveys and contributing towards the asset management plan, maintenance plan, asset disposals and acquisitions.

You will help provide an out of hours service for Orkney Islands Council and, where agreed, provide an out of hours service to other outside bodies with regards property emergency repairs and during general major emergencies.

You should have considerable relevant technical experience including supervising operatives and contractors, previous experience of building project specification and bill of quantities and relevant experience of building repairs and maintenance. Experience of supervision of building related projects is also essential as is having an ability to demonstrate knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.

Experience of writing reports, keeping accurate records, use of relevant survey equipment is highly desirable. You should be computer literate and have experience and knowledge of Microsoft Office packages with particular emphasis on Word and Excel.

You should be qualified to SCQF Level 6 (i.e., SVQ3 or HNC) in a relevant subject or, where the essential qualification is not held, have a minimum of 3 years directly relevant experience.
