Job Vacancy

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled and enthusiastic individual to join our Building Standards team. We are looking for a motivated and driven individual with good values and a genuine interest in building/construction.

We are looking to recruit an experienced Building Standards Surveyor who will carry out all aspects of the building standards function. This will include building warrant assessments, preparation of reports, site inspections, dealing with dangerous buildings and also provide advice to Architects, developers, and other customers. You will possess good written communications skills and also be capable of assessing major projects.

Your responsibilities include assisting the Building Standards Team leader in the day-to-day operation of the building standards service and to contribute to service performance. The post carries delegated responsibility for certain classes of building warrants and completion certificates.

You should hold chartered membership of the RICS or CABE, and possess at least 5 years’ experience in Building Standards. You must also possess an in-depth knowledge of the building regulations and all other legislation associated with the Building Standards function. A broad understanding of the construction industry is also expected.

You must have a good standard of written and spoken English, have computing skills, be able to prioritise and manage your time properly, work well under pressure and as part of a team, and demonstrate a customer-focussed attitude.

Where relevant experience in building standards is not met, consideration will be given to those with extensive construction experience in related professions such as building surveying and architecture where evidence and knowledge of construction science and legislative procedures can be shown. In this instance, the candidate will be assessed against qualifications and relevant experience and the salary entry point will be assigned against the Professional Staff Development Scheme.
