Full Job Description

Anderson Knight is currently seeking an experienced Builder Merchant and Construction Buyer for one of our clients based in South Lanarkshire.


The Builder Merchant and Construction Buyer is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, and managing inventory of building materials and construction supplies. This role involves working closely with suppliers and contractors to ensure timely delivery of quality products, maintaining cost efficiency, and supporting construction projects through effective procurement practices.


Key Responsibilities:

·        Identify and establish relationships with suppliers and manufacturers of construction materials.

·        Negotiate terms and prices to achieve cost savings and maintain profitability.

·        Monitor market trends and evaluate suppliers to ensure best quality and value.

·        Review and process purchase orders, ensuring accuracy and timely fulfillment.

·        Address and resolve any issues related to orders, deliveries, or quality.

·        Maintain detailed records of all transactions, agreements, and supplier performance.

·        Collaborate with construction teams to understand material requirements and timelines.

·        Provide technical advice on materials and products to support project needs.

·        Monitor and track the progress of orders and deliveries to avoid project delays.

·        Develop and manage budgets for procurement activities, ensuring cost-effectiveness.

·        Implement cost-saving strategies and recommend adjustments as necessary.

·        Analyse and report on procurement performance metrics.

·        Ensure all procurement practices comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

·        Stay updated on industry standards and safety regulations related to construction materials.


Requirements:

·        Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management (preferred)

·        CIPS qualified or working towards (preferred)

·        Proven experience as a buyer in the construction industry or a similar role.

·        Strong understanding of construction materials, tools, and industry standards.
