Full Job Description

Pam Duncan-Glancy MSP is looking for a Casework and Communications Officer to join her team in Glasgow on a full-time basis. In this role, you will be responsible for drafting and editing communications materials including press releases, social media posts, website content, leaflets and responses to constituent's letters and emails.

You will also support with casework, engaging with constituents in the local community to provide advice and support on a wide range of issues.

You will be responsible for effectively communicating Pam's work to a wide variety of stakeholders and providing an outstanding service to constituents.

Pam is therefore seeking a candidate with exceptional communication skills who can interact confidently with the public on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Identifying potential media opportunities and acting as media contact.

  • + Organising and arranging interviews and press conferences as specified. Identifying forthcoming events, in turn promoting my work.
    + Developing creative new engagement methods for social media accounts.
    + Updating my website.
    + Representing me in dealing with media and providing statements where appropriate.
  • Producing materials that effectively convey my aims to the general public and media.

  • + Keeping up to date with current media developments.
    + Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders.
    + Corresponding with constituents and local campaign groups.
    + Producing high quality press briefings, leaflets, newsletters, speeches, presentations and written materials.
  • Following all media outlets to capture relevant developments as they happen.

  • + Maintaining information systems to support communications.
  • Keeping casework up to date and responding to public enquiries.

  • + Keeping cases up to date by tracking, logging and recognising when to escalate issues within team.
    + Meeting constituents on a wide range of issues, including those of a sensitive nature and escalating accordingly.
  • Attending surgeries, producing reports and monitoring media trends on my behalf.

  • + Conducting basic research and surveys.
    + Investigating patterns of enquiries and producing reports.
    + Monitoring local and regional media and generating media coverage.
    + Briefing me and drafting responses.
  • Advocating on constituent's behalf with relevant bodies to resolve matters.

    Have an interest in politics with the confidence to represent someone in a media-related capacity.

  • Be capable in monitoring media developments and sourcing information from a range of channels.

  • Have the ability to foster good working relationships with confidence to understand how the media world operates.

  • Be creative in designing and communicating over a range of formats on different media platforms.

  • Have experience in content design for social media.

  • Have flexibility using relevant IT skills and writing styles, covering both traditional and newer forms of media.

  • Be a quick learner with the ability to multitask and work within tight timescales.

  • Be a proactive problem solver with the motivation and resilience to adapt and deal with challenges.

  • Have analytical kills with the ability to identify and investigate trends while interpreting data.

  • Have the creative flair and expertise to produce accurate and influential work.
