Full Job Description

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is one of the largest healthcare systems in the UK employing around 40,000 staff in a wide range of clinical and non-clinical professions and job roles. We deliver acute hospital, primary, community and mental health care services to a population of over 1.15 million and a wider population of 2.2 million when our regional and national services are included.

There is a Permanent Post and the shift pattern is Monday to Sunday 11.55 hours day and night shifts. Rotational shift pattern.

(Please note the salary is Pro Rata) for part time hours.

Can you inspire & support staff to deliver safer, more personalised midwifery care? Are you an experienced Labour ward midwife with a passion for excellence in clinical leadership? Would you like to be part of a dynamic and developing leadership team committed to continuous learning and improvement? Based on our Labour Ward, this post is suitable for a midwife with demonstrable experience of service improvement and governance. The right candidate will act as an excellent role model to all staff, providing a combination of strong clinical leadership, expert midwifery practice and the enthusiasm and drive required to ensure that all women and families receive kind, compassionate and personalised care. Above all we are looking for someone with the ability to lead and inspire whilst sharing our vision of the implementation of the Best Start national strategy.

The post holder will take responsibility for:

  • the shift management
  • and clinical leadership of the midwifery service.

They will be expected to ensure high standards of maternity care through effective management of staff by leading the team, organising others in their actions and setting priorities. They will be an effective team player, leader and builder. They will liaise with and collaborate across the maternity service to ensure a seamless service that provides personalised and women-centered care and will undertake the role of Unit Coordinator for the Maternity. They will assess the full range of care needs and develop, implement and evaluate provision of care throughout the childbirth continuum for women and their babies and escalate concerns to the relevant professional. They will assist with management of staff on the unit and contribute to the delivery of the NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde Maternity Strategy objectives.

NHS Scotland is reducing their full time working week from 37.5 to 37 hours per week from 1 April 2024 but with no change in pay.  This reduction will also be applied pro rata for part time staff.  This advert and any subsequent offer/contract of employment therefore reflects the new working hours.  However, as not all service areas will be able to adopt the 37 hour working week immediately from 1 April 2024, you may be required to work up to an additional 30 minutes per week for a temporary period for which you would be paid until the service you are working in changes rosters or working patterns to accommodate the new reduced working week.  If you have any questions or concerns please contact the Recruiting Board.

Candidates should provide original and authentic responses to all questions within the application form. The use of artificial intelligence (AI), automated tools, or other third-party assistance to generate, draft, or significantly modify responses is strongly discouraged. By submitting your application, you confirm that all answers are your own work, reflect your personal knowledge, skills and experience, and have not been solely produced or altered by AI or similar technologies.

Failure to comply with this requirement may result in your application being withdrawn from the application process.
