The Chief Officer (Legal and Democratic Services) plays a critical role in the effective legal, political, democratic, governance and information risk and security operations of the Council with a wide range of complex legal and statutory responsibilities which require to be carefully managed.

While delivering considerable change and improvement, we continue working with partners in addressing the significant challenges faced in improving outcomes for the people and communities of North Lanarkshire.

We can only achieve the outcomes required to meet these priorities by being solution focused and working together.

This role is wide-ranging and includes acting as the Council’s Monitoring Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Clerk to the Licencing Board, Senior Information Risk Owner (SIRO) and Data Protection Officer (DPO) with additional specific operational responsibilities including lead for the Council’s Registrar function; fraud and counter terrorism; and information risk and security.
