Full Job Description

Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS) are an executive agency of the Scottish Government and we are looking for ambitious and motivated individuals who are looking for a rewarding and diverse career as a Civil Engineering Work Supervisor.
The Civil Engineering team plans, designs and manages a network of forest roads and associated infrastructure, including bridges and extractives sites (Quarries). The forest road network supports land management and particularly the harvesting and marketing of timber from Scotland’s national forests and land., You will support the Civil Engineers in the planning, delivery and supervision of site operations in line with FLS policy and industry best practice.

Working with People
+ Actively contribute to the functioning of the civil engineering team
+ Work across multi-disciplinary teams
+ Engage with members of the public including responding to queries and complaints
+ Talk to contractors and workers
Inspecting and Surveying
+ Carry out inspections of forest roads;
+ Carry out general inspections of bridges and structures;
+ Recording information using Global Positioning Systems and Geographical Information systems;
+ Assist Civil Engineers with laying out forest roads and other works.
Planning and supervision of works
+ Assist in planning forest roads maintenance programmes;
+ Recommend actions on road defects to the Civil Engineer;
+ Prepare site plans and documentation such as risk assessments as directed by the Civil Engineer;
+ Ensure that works are delivered to the right level of quality;
+ Maintain records of checks in site diaries.
Safety Health and Environment
+ Carry out regular visits to active sites
+ Carry out site checks and audits using checklists
+ Use site visits and audits to prompt discussion on Safety, Health and Environmental Performance
+ Report any accidents or incidents and carry out investigation of the causes

Successful candidates must undergo a criminal record check.
