Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Quality Co-ordinator to join the Quality Directorate as part of the Cancer Audit Team, to support the Quality Programme Manager in the delivery of a portfolio of Quality projects designed to support delivery of the highest quality health and care services in NHS Lanarkshire through monitoring and using performance, quality and safety data to identify issues that need to be addressed and taking follow up action to improve the quality of the care and services delivered.


We are looking for someone who is motivated by the opportunity to improve quality within healthcare.  In our team, you will play a key role in supporting our portfolio of local and national clinical audit priorities.

The Role

To support the Quality Programme Manager in the delivery of a portfolio of Quality projects designed to support delivery of the highest quality health and care services in NHS Lanarkshire through monitoring and using performance, quality and safety data to identify issues that need to be addressed and taking follow up action to improve the quality of the care and services delivered.

What we'll need you to bring

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant discipline and/or equivalent experience (e.g. demonstrable experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Improvement post)
  • Experience of working in support of clinicians involved in Quality Assurance or Quality Improvement projects, or a background in a data management related role.
  • High level of I.T. skills and a highly competent user of all Microsoft Office applications e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, Internet Explorer and Outlook
  • Knowledge of the principles of the quality strategy and national quality agenda
  • Data analysis and report writing skills
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology to inform data analysis and reporting
  • Experience in presentation of data and results orally or by poster.
  • Experience of maintaining databases to support Quality Assurance or Quality Improvement etc.
  • Knowledge of the importance of data quality
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience of working in and with multidisciplinary teams
  • Facilitation, influencing and negotiating skills
  • Good organisational skills including prioritising workload and working to tight timescales.
  • Analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work without direct supervision
  • Evidence of CPD and up to date PDP

It would be great if you also have:

  • Demonstrable experience in a Quality Assurance or Quality Improvement post/projects
  • Employment in a Quality support role for more than 2 years
  • Knowledge of NHS Healthcare Improvement Scotland (HIS) /SIGN Guidelines / Clinical Standards

From 1 April 2024, the working week for NHS Agenda for Change workers in Scotland will be reduced.  Full-time hours will reduce from 37.5 to 37 hours (pro rata for part-time staff) without loss of earnings.

NHS Lanarkshire will implement this change but it may not be possible to fully transition from 1 April and there may therefore be some areas of the organisation where implementation may take longer.  If the department is currently unable to safely accommodate the reduced hours from 1st April, you may be required to work 37.5 hours per week until the department can meet the requirements without impacting patient safety - you will, of course, be remunerated accordingly. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to full implementation of the 37 hour working week across all areas as soon as it is safe to do so.
