CMAC is an internationally leading medicines manufacturing research centre with a unique configuration of academic research, applied, and pre-competitive programmes. Working in partnership with Tier 1, Tier 2, academic, and innovation partners, CMAC's goal is to transform Medicines Development, Manufacture & Supply, and further grow its world-class portfolio of multi-disciplinary collaborative research. This includes the Digital Medicines Manufacturing Research Centre (DM²), Digital Design and Manufacture of Amorphous Pharmaceuticals (DDMAP), UKRPIF Net Zero Pilot, UKRPIF CMAC Data Lab, Centre for Doctoral Training CEDAR and the CMAC MediForge Research Hub, along with training and translation projects within a world-class facility.

To deliver our vibrant manufacturing research programme we work in close collaboration with a number of leading UK academic institutions (University of Leeds, Imperial College London, University of Sheffield, Glasgow School of Art, Cambridge, Loughborough) and link with international centres in the US, Europe and Far East. Established in 2011, CMAC currently comprises over 130 staff and researchers, academics and PhD students. We also continue to grow our Facility team to support and engage a wide user community to benefit from the dedicated facilities in the £90M Technology & Innovation Centre (TIC) building at Strathclyde.

This post offers an exciting opportunity to join the leadership team responsible to drive and deliver CMAC’s industry revenue growth plan, lead generation business operations procedures and associated KPIs, to design and lead opportunity within Tier 1 and non-Tier 1 business development streams, and consolidation of CMAC long terms sustainability plan including CMAC National Facility portfolio of 1:1 and MSA based collaboration. A strong focus on MSA based collaboration, collaborative research and technical translation to work effectively at the academic and industry interface will be key to this role. The Business Development (BD) & Planning Manager will design the business development approach according to CMAC’s strategy to deliver industry leading technical translation to Tier 1s and CMAC National Facility strategic partners and end users to support the delivery of CMAC’s mid- and long-term strategy and CMAC National Facility business plan and strategic growth.

You will be responsible for development and delivery of a portfolio constituted by a large span of diverse collaboration and for the associated management (i.e. OnTimeInFull) which include RFI, RFP, commercial interfacing and timely reporting and invoicing. Reporting to the CMAC Industry Director, other duties will involve project feasibility assessment, contractual management, BD planning and reporting, which will include pricing strategy, as well as marketing and communications. Additionally, you will work in conjunction with the CMAC Director/s, Executive Group and National Facility Manger/s to achieve alignment in emerging research capabilities, infrastructure, scheduling, skills and industry engagement strategies and maximise opportunities both internally and externally.

The role is key in ensuring industry partners derive value from the programme through appropriate routes (1-1, MSA, strategic FTE based models, placements, collaborative projects, CMAC’s research portfolio and programmes, translational projects) and create effective routes for knowledge exchange, IP generation or commercialisation routes to maximise the impact from research. A key interaction will be the active and proactive participation at the Industry Technical Committees and the ownership of Key Account Management BD KPIs, monitoring and data based Fiscal Years overview to inform the Centre’s direction and emerging opportunities that will ensure development of strategic growth and positioning as world class centre in Future Manufacturing Research and Translation
