Full Job Description

Murphy is currently recruiting for a Commercial Manager to join our award-winning Energy team in Alness, Inverness covering the portfolio of Power, Transmission & Distribution projects such as Substations, HV Cables & Overhead Lines. Our team is known for its extensive in-house expertise and continual drive to innovate within the industry. Reporting into the Senior Commercial Manager, the Commercial Manager will lead an established team within the Energy Business Unit.

Following the 'One Murphy' approach, we're able to deliver all aspects of the projects we work on. Murphy has designed, constructed, and commissioned projects for clients such as National Grid, SSE and Ørsted, on both transmission and distribution networks within the Energy sector.

What you will be doing

  • Manage all commercial aspects of the Project and maintain regular liaison with all stakeholders.

  • Build a high performing team, while continually improving

  • Monthly project reviews to analyse and take appropriate action.

  • Attend the required reviews with the Executive Team to explain the business current and planned performance.

  • Ensure the implementation of a commercial strategy for the Project.

  • Maintain a schedule of Client engagement events for equivalent level customer feedback, alignment, and future pipeline of work.

  • In conjunction with the Project Director, set the annual business plan, and create the strategy to achieve the elements therein.

  • To lead on the development and training of Commercial Practitioners including supervisor / mentor / counsellor role for staff undertaking their APC or equivalent.

  • Maximising of cash position, including WIP control, cash flow production & improvement plans

  • To be responsible in conjunction with the Project Director and Estimating Manager to ensure that a review of all the contractual obligations and commercial risks is carried out prior to the submission of all tenders within the BU and attend tender settlement meetings as required.

  • To ensure effective negotiations with prospective clients are carried out prior to signing contracts to minimise risk.

    Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS) or equivalent.

  • Commercially astute with substantial experience within a commercial role in the Civil Engineering / Construction Industry.

  • Expert knowledge of Standard Forms of Contract such as NEC and Standard Methods of Measurement.

  • Understanding of programming techniques and project controls.

  • Gravitas, relationship management on senior peer to peer basis.

  • Substantial post qualification experience.
