Full Job Description

We have an exciting part-time opportunity for a diligent General Insurance professional to join NFU Mutual as a Commercial Underwriter. Commercial business presents our biggest growth opportunity, and this role is an integral part of that growth. As you'll be working in a part-time capacity, this role enables you to balance professional and personal commitments with flexible hours to suit your lifestyle. As a Commercial Underwriter, you'll be responsible for evaluating and assessing risks across a variety of business classes, including our Motor Trade, Farm, Estates, and Commercial Select products within our Small to Medium-sized Enterprise (SME), or New Business teams. Here at NFU mutual, we operate a unique model of working with Tied Agents across our UK-wide NFU Mutual Agency Network. Our Agents and their agency teams are the vital, personal day-to-day link with our customers. As an underwriter, you'll build strong relationships and work collaboratively with our agencies, resolving complex referrals and ensuring effective management of the insurance risk cost, whilst delivering the right solution and service for our customers. We provide a comprehensive induction for this role, so for the first 6 months in post you'll need to commit to be in the office more frequently. Following your induction, you'll continue to receive ongoing training which will support your career progression and personal growth. Working hours: 21+ hours per week, Monday - Friday with shifts between the hours of 8am and 6pm. We understand how important a positive work-life balance is to you, so we offer great facilities when you want to be in an office environment and support to work some of your hours from home. To help you give your best in the office and at home, we're also open to discussing what part-time hours might look like for you.

You're a Commercial Underwriting professional with varied experience of complex and technical cases within a regulated environment, including working within Authority. If you have previous exposure to a broad range of Commercial General Insurance products and are a keen learner, we would love to hear from you. A resilient individual, you naturally demonstrate the effective communication skills needed to establish strong working relationships with key stakeholders across a business, with the ability and confidence to challenge and influence where necessary. To join our team, you'll also have:

  • A customer-focused mind, with strong attention to detail
  • The confidence to work in a regulated environment
  • The ability to make rational and logical decisions in a fast-paced environment
  • Policy document review experience
  • Commercial Underwriting experience in the insurance industry
