Job Description

To provide support, both direct and indirect, for deaf and visual impaired children and young people, primarily, but not solely, in the learning environment.  Apply appropriate communication methods, suitable for the needs and preferences of the pupils, to enable access to information and the curriculum and promote inclusion.

This is a peripatetic post and will require the post holder to be mobile and work in more than one school across Moray and require the use of their own car.

Responsibilities

Support learning and teaching activities under the direction of the Principal Teacher SES, Teacher of Deaf Children and Young People (ToD) and Teacher of Visual Impairment (TVI)

Provide communication support to children and young people who is either a deaf or visually impaired.

Modify and adapt curriculum content so that it is accessible to the child or young person.

Attend to the emotional health and wellbeing of children and young people who is deaf or visually impairment.

Support children and young people in the effective use of technology necessary to access their learning

The Individual

Experience of working with children & young adults of pre-school/school age in a caring and supportive environment.

2 SQA Standard grades or equivalent at level 3 or above in English and Maths.

British Sign Language (BSL) Level 1 and Braille Stage 1 or a commitment to acquire both in a timely fashion

Full driving licence

Ability to communicate at all levels.

Ability to observe professional confidentiality and implement sound judgement

Ability to work flexibly using their own initiative and as part of a team.

Willingness to accept direction / delegation.

Ability to work under guidance and direction of specialist (ToD/TVI) and class teaching staff

Ability to interact with empathy and tolerance and to respond positively to children and young people with a sensory impairment

An understanding of, and commitment to, the ethos of inclusion

You will be expected to travel efficiently between various work locations within Moray to meet the operational requirements of the Service. Due to the rural nature of Moray this is normally undertaken by use of a private car or pool car / van.

Starting Salary: £27,994.20 (pro rata)
