Full Job Description

Please note this post is term time, the postholder will be required to work an additional 2 weeks each year, to be negotiated with the service manager.

Please note as this post is part time / term time, your salary will be pro rata to hours / weeks worked.

If you start out with the normal school session, an adjustment will be made to reduce your first pay. This is because you are not entitled to be paid for all holidays. Once this adjustment has been completed, you will receive a 12^th of your annual salary thereafter.

You will receive an email from our payroll department before your first pay is due to advise of the amount that will be deducted.

If you start on the first day of term, this will not apply to you.

The main purpose of the post is to support deaf children/young people and their families.

The support provided will be responsive to the needs of the child/young person and will be flexible and well planned to meet their needs within education establishments, family homes and the community. The expectation is that the post holder will be required to work from 9.00 am to 3:00pm however, some flexibility may be required.

Main duties and responsibilities of the post holder are as follows:

  • Plan and support deaf children/young people to access the curriculum.

  • Providing BSL/SSE communication support to enable access to education and services for children, young people and their families.

  • Supporting staff to learn BSL/SSE.

  • Supporting families in accessing BSL resources.

  • Support deaf children and young people to express their views and ensure they are taken into account.

  • Working in partnership with the class teacher to meet the needs of deaf pupils.

  • Supporting the class, school and wider community in using BSL.
