Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Community Midwifery Team Leader within NHS Fife maternity services award-winning Family Liaison Team. Applicants should have an interest in supporting women and their families where there are child protection concerns, in this challenging, rewarding and varied role. This role is based in the Victoria Hospital with the expectation of travel throughout Fife. In addition to providing a high level of individualised care to a caseload of women, this post will involve line management responsibilities for a team consisting of midwives and maternity care assistants.

Our Vulnerable in Pregnancy team consists of the Family Liaison Team, Drug Liaison Team and Perinatal Mental Health Team. The team provide specialist midwifery care for families with child protection concerns, perinatal mental health challenges, substance dependency and social issues linked to deprivation and gender based violence. The team were Scottish Health Award Winners in 2020 in the category of Midwife of the Year.

NHS Fife maternity is a modern, thriving and progressive unit with approximately 2900 births per year. The services include outpatient and community services, a complex care Consultant Unit and an alongside Midwife Led Unit.

Our community teams provide continuity of carer for women and families during the antenatal and postnatal period. Teams are based throughout 3 sites within Fife covering West, Central and East Fife.  We have a dedicated Birth at Home team who have doubled the number of Home Births in Fife in the last 2 years and operates a Continuity of Carer model.

We have a thriving fast paced Maternity assessment unit that provides care to women with worries or concerns with their pregnancy out with their routine scheduled visits of care.

NHS Fifes appreciation and nurture of Midwife led care is longstanding. Our alongside unit opened its doors in 1993 and has gone from strength to strength. Being revolutionary for its time, it has continued to be progressive and has been recognised nationally for the work in VBAC water birth. We aim to remain at the forefront of midwife led care and have more recently been a key contributor in the development of the MUSA Tool (Midwifery Unit Standards Assessment Tool) in conjunction with the University of London. Where the aim, is to have European Midwife Led Unit standards for all.

We have a dedicated ELLUSCS team as well as a dedicated Induction of labour Suite. The work and dedication our midwives apply to ensuring the best possible journey for woman and families was recognised and celebrated. The team were nominated finalists in the RCM awards in 2020. Our IOL Suite offers both inpatient and outpatient inductions.

We will encourage you with your professional development education via our dedicated clinical midwife educator and midwifery PEF. We have an extremely successful in house leadership programme and regularly encourage staff to participate in external networking.

An organisations culture and values cascades from its leadership. Our Head of Midwifery was a Royal College of Midwives national awards nominated finalist in 2021 for her work and dedication to staff well being during a Global Pandemic. This if nothing else should let you know how much NHS Fife values its staff.

Women and families are at the centre of all we do. We are progressive, dynamic and willing; all that is missing from our service is YOU.

You must be a NMC Registered Midwife, educated to degree level. In addition you should possess enthusiasm, excellent team working skills with effective communication.
