The Post:

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service (SNBTS) is a directorate of NHS National Services Scotland (NSS).  Accountable to the Scottish Government, NSS works at the very heart of the health service, providing national support services and expert advice to NHSScotland.  It also plays an active and crucial role in the delivery of effective healthcare to patients and the public.

The core purpose of the SNBTS is to meet the transfusion needs of patients in . To deliver this, SNBTS is the specialist provider of transfusion medicine in , supplying high quality blood, tissues, cells, products and services. SNBTS works with communities, hospitals and professionals to ensure that the donors gift is used wisely and for the benefit of patients.

Within SNBTS, the Patient Services division is responsible for the care of patients undergoing stem cell collection and a range of therapeutic apheresis procedures as well as the provision of transfusion and transplantation laboratory services

This replacement post of up to 10 PAs, is a Consultant Haematologist within SNBTS Patient Services Division based at the SNBTS Edinburgh and Southeast Scotland Regional Centre on the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh site.

The main duties are providing consultant level Transfusion Medicine support to the SNBTS Clinical Laboratories and Clinical Apheresis Unit and supporting the SNBTS Transfusion Practitioners and Hospital Transfusion Committees in the Southeast of Scotland.

The post-holder is expected to take part in the SNBTS National Consultant Rota for out of hours and daytime on-call.

Time will be allocated for continuing professional development. Maintenance of CPD compliance of RCPath is mandatory as is maintenance of full registration with GMC.

The Candidate:

Applicants must be registered medical practitioners who are included on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council or within six months of completing CCT qualification in Haematology.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a PVG Scheme check. Any candidate who has lived/worked overseas for more than 12 months in the preceding 5 years will also be required to provide a criminal record check from the appropriate overseas agency.

Candidates must have current GMC registration at the time of applying

Location and Working Pattern:

SNBTS Edinburgh and Southeast Scotland Regional Centre, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh 

The post-holder is expected to take part in the SNBTS National Consultant Rota for out of hours and daytime on-call.

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NSS.
